Happy Thanksgiving! And since it is Thanksgiving, I wanted to share a few books that I am thankful for.
The first is Cinderella. And really, any Cinderella book would work. When I was little, I read all sorts of fairy tales, but specifically any Cinderella book. This one story can be marked as the reason that I fell in love with stories. Period. So, for that I am specifically grateful.
The next is the Nancy Drew series. When I was 11 I discovered Nancy Drew. Up until that point I remember things like the Babysitter’s Club or whatnot, but nothing made me want to devour books the way this series did. And I can say that these books are most likely the reason that I can read stories fast enough to satisfy my curiosity.
The next book is To Kill a Mockingbird. This is the book that got me from reading things like Nancy Drew to actually reading some books with a little more depth. I was almost surprised that I actually had to think when reading. But I liked it. And this book started me on a love of good stories.
The last book is Pride and Prejudice. When my older sister gave this book to me when I was 15-years-old, I didn’t know how it would change my life. But this is the book that first spoke to my soul. And when I read all other books, I am looking for the perfect balance of quality and story (with a little romance for my romantic heart) that I found when reading this book.
So, as you celebrate all things worth being thankful for (family, friends, life and all things good), also celebrate the books that make life just that much sweeter. Happy Thanksgiving!
