No More Pacifier, Duck

“Duck likes his pacifier.” And as many toddlers know, pacifiers are great…though adults don’t always think so. Duck is happy to have his pacifier. However, Mama Duck decides that Duck doesn’t need the pacifier anymore except while in bed. Then eventually Mama decides that Duck doesn’t even need the pacifier while in bed. The bright colors and large white text goes perfectly with the bold illustrations of Mama and Duck. And young readers who understand the disappointment of having pacifiers taken away will especially relate to all the large teardrops flying all over the crib as Duck tries to come to grips with what has just happened. This is a fun story that will help youngsters understand that they can be like Duck and get rid of their pacifiers too. Although I am willing to bet it will take more than just one night without the pacifier before they do…but then parents could just read this book over and over again. 😉
What to do after reading this book:
Cuddle just before bedtime.
Talk about why Duck doesn’t need a pacifier.
Talk about what Duck could do if he wanted a pacifier.
Go to a park and visit real ducks.
Talk about what makes a child a “big” girl or boy.
