WazDot? by Michael Slack

Blip is an alien on an alien class field trip. They all have their scanners (Blip’s is named “Zot”) that will tell the aliens what things are. Blip gets tired of staying with his class…especially when he sees a nice planet Earth that looks like there would be loads of things to discover. So Blip goes and finds a pig, vegetables, chickens, a cow, and a tractor. Of course his alien teacher comes to take him away. But then the whole class wonders what everything is that Blip stumbled upon. The answer…a FARM!

This is a fun book. My nephews LOVED reading this one over and over and over again. I like how there are few words. And the pages are presented in such a way that kids can “guess” what the certain objects are (they will love shouting out pig, chickens, cow, or tractor…but the vegetables seemed to stump them almost every time). And Blip is just such a fun shade of textured blue that little kiddos won’t be scared by this alien. And the fun ending will have kids chuckling to themselves every time. This is a great book that I will need to incorporate into story time in the very near future. 🙂

What to do after reading this book:
Go and visit a farm.
Find objects around the house and name what they are.
Teach others about what objects are and what they do.
Look at the stars at night.
Draw a picture of Blip and his classmates in space.
