“Miss Bell loved cats.” So she went to the pet store and bought a cat. Of course the cat grew and grew and grew. Young readers will love the fact that they know the secret that the cat isn’t really an ordinary cat. It is a tiger. And life is a little grander with a cat that is as big as Miss Bell. And as an added bonus at the end of the book Miss Bell decides that the cat needs another pet as a companion. So she goes back to the pet store and gets some fish…only one fish has rather sharp, pointy teeth and grows so large that he must swim in the bathtub.

This is a great picture book that will get kids laughing just because they understand more of what is really going on than Miss Bell. And with loads of colors and black fine lines outlining all of the illustrations there are many details the kiddos will want to poor over again and again. This is the type of picture book that I would love to read in a preschool story time. The kids would love to realize that they understand the silliness of the situation. Nicely done.

What to do after reading this book:
Go visit a pet store.
Play with a kitten.
Visit the zoo or an aquarium.
Watch some fish swim around.
Draw a picture of a fish, kitten, shark, or tiger.
Pretend you are an extra large kitten.
